What vehicle(s) can haul a sport bike?

The vehicle required varies depending on the weight of your motorcycle. On average, sport motorcycles fall between 300 to 500 lbs. For generic guidance: a 300 lb. sport motorcycle, requires a vehicle with approximately 3,600 lbs. of towing capacity and a 500 lb. sport bike, requires a vehicle with approximately 5,600 lbs. of towing capacity.

To calculate the requirements for your motorcycle, add the weight of the carrier to your motorcycle, then multiply that number by 10 to factor for tongue capacity. Follow this example to calculate the minimum required towing capacity for hauling a 400 lb. sport motorcycle with a sport carrier.

400 lbs. (Motorcycle) + 60 lbs. (Carrier) = 410 lbs.
460 lbs. (Net Weight) x 10= 4,600 lbs. (Minimum Required Towing Capacity)

Is towing capacity the same as tongue capacity?

No. Towing capacity is the weight your vehicle can pull with a trailer and tongue capacity is the weight your vehicle withstand pushing down on the hitch. In general, tongue capacity is 10% of towing capacity. Staying within tongue weight capacity is a critical safety factor. Please ensure you stay within your vehicle's limits.

What other products do you recommend for hauling sport motorcycles?

Since large sport bikes commonly block vehicle's tail lights, we recommend the LED or Standard light kit to extend the light functions to the back of your MotoTote. For tie downs, we recommend Canyon Dancer Bar Harnesses for seamless connection to the front bars, and an AceBikes TyreFix for the rear tire.

Can I load a heavy sport motorcycle by myself?

Yes, a wide variety of our customers load heavy motorcycles by themself, but we recommend this based on your own comfort/experience. When first loading and unloading, we recommend a helping hand for you and your bikes safety. For extra ease, we recommend parking near a curb to reduce the loading ramps angle.

Will my expensive motorcycle be safe?

We have thousands of customers all over the world with zero structural failures over 25 years. As long as you stay within your vehicle's tongue capacity limits and tie down safely, your motorcycle will be safe!
