What tie downs are best for my motorcycle?

The best tie-downs for motorcycles vary by motorcycle type and preference. In general, we recommend tie-downs with soft loops for the front handlebars, as they prevent stress and damage to the bike by connecting to the bike with straps, instead of metal parts.

What is the difference between a cam buckle and ratcheting tie down?

Cam buckles use friction created by the strap as it passes through a spring-loaded, cam-shaped buckle to hold the strap in place. Ratchet straps operate in much the same manner, but with a ratchet buckle to progressively tighten the strap. Comparatively, ratchet buckles require less effort to use, as the tightening is done with a mechanism, instead of manpower.

How many straps do you need to tie down a bike?

You will need three tie-down straps to secure your bike properly to a MotoTote—two for the front and one for the rear. The front tie-downs hold the bike in place and provide stability/support, while the rear tie-down prevents the rear from jumping out of the tire track.
