MotoTote Care & Repair Guide
Although MotoTote motorcycle hitch carriers are extremely strong, have unmatched build quality, and are durable for years of adventure, there are some things that you should know to get the most out of their lifespan. Just being aware can make your hauler last years longer. Maximizing the life of your motorcycle carrier is not only good for you but the planet. It all starts with proper care of your carrier whenever you use it.
Motorcycle Carrier Care Guidelines
- When moving, do not drag parts on the ground. This will likely remove paint and expose raw steel that could rust.
- When not in use, store inside or keep covered to prevent exposure to the elements. Rain can cause corrosion on damaged or unsealed parts. Overexposure to the sun can chalk the paint.
- If an endcap is lost, purchase new ones and keep the ends of the carrier sealed. Water will find a way in.
- If hardware is starting to corrode, put WD40 on it to prevent further corrosion.
Motorcycle Carrier Repair
Unlike other hitch-mounted motorcycle carriers, MotoTote carriers are modular. This means that if any specific part gets damaged or is showing age, you can easily purchase a new part to replace it. With MotoTote's one-year warranty, we will replace it at no cost to you if a part has a manufacturing defect in that period.
Warranty does not cover damage caused by improper handling, storage, collision/impact, or excessive exposure to sunlight or rain.
If you desire to repair a damaged part, note that it should be done by a qualified professional. In general, we do not recommend modifying the MotoTote in any way, as each part has been tested and built to specification to haul motorcycles safely.
After many years some owners have had their carrier either re-powder coated or polished to bring their MotoTote back to new.
With proper awareness and practice, your MotoTote can last a lifetime. Your future adventures will thank you.
